Diet Drinks and Back Pain

health conditions

Question by  bluecat (15)

Can drinking excessive diet coke result in back pain?

I drink five cokes a day on average and have started to experience low back, or flank pain, could they be related?

Answer by  Anonymous

I had chronic back pain for years and a Diet Coke habit. When I stopped the Diet Coke, which was hard, my back pain went away. I relapsed into a daily Diet Coke habit and the knots in the muscles returned, so I quit Diet Coke. Yes!

Phosphoric acid present in carbonated drinks is very harmful for bones, because it removes the calcium from bones. It causes bone erosion and osteoporosis leading to back and joint pains.

Well if you are drinking this much of soda you are bound to have some problems. I am suprised you don't have some form of kidney problems. Diet products are found to be unhealthy. Even regular soda is high in sugar and drinking this must is definetely not good.

Lower back pain could be caused by many things. If you think your diet coke is causing it, that is a possibility. It could be affecting your kidneys, which are in that area. It could also be the result of gas pain, which could affect your internal organs in such a way that manifests in back pain.

There is evidence that excessive drinking of diet coke over a period of time can cause osteoporosis. Best to lay off the coke for a while and see how you feel. Any soft drink, diet or regular, makes you fat over a period of time. Weight would give you back pain. Diet drinks are just water and chemicals.

It is doubtful that soda is causing back pain. Make sure that you are drinking sufficient water each day. Sometimes drinking a lot of soda causes us to forget about drinking the water that we need to stay healthy and flush out our systems. That could help with your overall health condition.

Yes, it can cause you to have back pain. Regular or diet cokecan cause pain, because both contain caffeine, which is probably causing your kidneys to be over worked.

Yes it can, you should probably replace some of the sodas with water, and if that doesn't clear up you might want to have a doctor check your kidney function.

I also have had back pain that I associate with coke zero intake. I just started up coke zero again and my back pain returned. I'm cutting it out now, I'll report back with my findings in 2 weeks. If I'm back pain free I'm never drinking coke zero again.
