Simon American Idol Plant Based Diet

Simon Cowell first came to prominence back in the early 2000s when he was labelled the "mean judge" on the hit FOX series, American Idol. While Cowell was already known in the United Kingdom, he was brand new to the US scene, however, he quickly catapulted to nationwide fame and success.

After years of sitting as a judge on Idol, Simon Cowell brought a plethora of talent competition shows to the forefront, including The X-Factor and America's Got Talent. Well, during his time on AGT, fans began to wonder why Simon Cowell looked so different back in 2019, leaving us to question why his face looks like that.

Updated on November 1, 2021, by Michael Chaar: Simon Cowell was once all about being the brutally honest judge on American Idol, later joining the panel of The X-Factor and now, America's Got Talent, however, fans are focused on a bit more than his judging. In 2019, Simon Cowell underwent quite a change in appearance, making it clear he dabbled in too much botox, all while getting himself a blinding set of veneers. While his cosmetic procedures sparked some interest amongst fans, Cowell also appeared to be much thinner. This all came about when the British star went vegan, ultimately leading to his 60-pound weight loss, which certainly contributed to his drastic difference in looks. Despite working hard on his weight, Simon broke his vegan diet in order to put on the weight back in 2020.

He Admits to Getting 'A Bit Too Much' Botox

Simon has always been upfront about loving Botox. Go him for being honest and owning it! He was the person who told Gordon Ramsay to get some done, according to Gordon himself. The Mirror reports that Simon's also given out Botox vouchers to his co-stars for Christmas.

Simon admits that he and his TV pals used to go overboard with face-freezing injectibles. He says sometimes he likes to rewatch old X-Factor seasons just to gawk at his own face.

"I probably did have a little too much a couple of years ago," he told Hello! Magazine. "I love watching 'the Botox years.' All of us are like, 'Christ, we had a lot that year. Not so much that year… maybe a bit too much that year'...But there are lots of things you can do now, you don't just have to stuff your face with filler and Botox."

Even as Simon has moved away from injectibles, its effects have potentially altered the shape and weight of his face for good. As a cosmetic surgeon and author Dr. Aamer Khan told The Scottish Sun: "His eyelids look very heavy and it is quite possible that the Botox has caused his eyelids to droop."

Then He Went Vegan

Simon says he's been on a strict vegan diet since Spring 2019. Inspired by his son Eric, the whole Cowell family has ditched the meat and dairy products for some healthy alternatives, and their choices are paying off.

"You feel better, you look better," he told The Scottish Sun. "I cut out a lot of the stuff I shouldn't have been eating and that was primarily meat, dairy, wheat, sugar - those were the four main things."

As of May 2020, Simon told Extra he'd lost about 60 pounds - and experts say that this changed his facial structure as well as his body. "That weight loss is clearly showing in his face," Dr. Khan explained, "especially in his mid face which appears to have dropped slightly, altering his appearance."

Now He Prefers Semi-Permanent Facelifts

To counteract all the droop, Simon recently bought himself a facelift. The Scottish Sun reports that cosmetic surgeon Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh gave Simon a "Silhouette Soft Lift," which Simon said, "hurt like hell."

The Silhouette Soft Lift is a non-surgical procedure that involves sewing 'bioplastic-infused threads' into someone's face and neck and tugging them tight. It isn't a permanent solution to aging skin, but it's becoming more popular among celebs like Kylie Minogue, Cindy Crawford, and Elle Macpherson. They're all clients of Dr. Sebagh, who's got a six-month-long waitlist for procedures at his clinics in Paris and London.

Dr. Khan believes this facelift might not have been the right choice for Simon, and that stepping away from the needles would be the right decision at this point.

"Simon's fallen face and sunken eyes are a result of the wrong treatments being advised to him, leading to the facial muscles starting to drop around the eye area," he told The Scottish Sun. "Quality of your skin may be affected by your lifestyle or as you age, or in Simon's case, too many procedures!"

Don't Forget the Veneers

In September 2019 Simon was snapped out on the town with partner Lauren Silverman and a smile that made the bottom half of his face almost unrecognizable. While common whitening procedures can take three weeks to a month to achieve, Simon's mouth transformation was so quick that most fans assume he had dental veneers installed.

The difference in the size and shape of his teeth is something that could only have come from ditching his own set and purchasing a whole new one.

Simon's new ultra-white and large teeth have provoked reactions from both fans contestants on his shows. Comedian Jack Carroll called out Simon's unnatural smile last year during a Britain's Got Talent standup set, saying he needed protective goggles to look directly at Simon's teeth.

Mr. Cowell is just one of the loads of celebrities who've dramatically changed their smiles, but adding big new teeth to his already altered face makes him look super odd. Is there an X buzzer we can hit the next time he tries to get more work done?
